We've been having a Lord of the Rings marathon at my house, and I have been enjoying it immensely...(no, not only because Orlando Bloom is in them :) If you haven't seen em, you're missin out and we should fix that! They are so well made and the music and the dialogue and the cinematography and the scenery and oh! It's fun :)
So this is why you wanted to know a word to describe them...I can't help but feel that the comment about fixing it if you haven't seen them might be partially directed at me. :)
